CHESSCOT UNITED YOUTH SERVICES

In 2024, Friends of Jamaica (FOJ) awarded a grant to Chesscot United Youth Services to provide the Ujama Football Club with essential equipment, such as shoes, socks, and balls. The support from FOJ allowed the team to participate in constructive sporting activities, including regulation games with other teams in East Portland.

The Ujama Football Club operated for many years helping to provide a safe space for the youth of East Portland to participate in fun and impactful activities like football. However, over the years, it became increasingly harder for the Ujama Football Club to provide essential equipment for these young men.

Providing support for groups like the Ujama Football Team helped to create a sense of community among team members, resulting in a sense of belonging, feeling supported, and overall enjoyment.

FOJ was thrilled to have been part of helping to keep this space alive and thriving for the youth of East Portland.
